Explanation of Advanced Features

These options appear in Preferences (Advanced and DNS tabs) of the Legacy UI.

Expert mode

Activates some expert information and features.

  • Shows a command button in the Logs window (OpenVPN Management Interface / internal commands).
  • Shows more detailed status text while Eddie is working.

DNS Switch mode

Controls whether Eddie switches system DNS during a VPN session. In the UI the choices are Disabled (dns.mode=none) and Automatic (dns.mode=auto).

Check AirVPN DNS

When the connection is established, Eddie tries to resolve domain names that are resolved only by our DNS server, to ensure that the system is correctly querying our DNS server.

It's not mandatory to use our DNS server, but it's recommended to enjoy our Geolocation Routing service and avoid DNS blocks/DNS poisoning by your provider.

Check if the tunnel works

Sends a request to the server, that verifies whether it comes from within the tunnel and replies with an acknowledgement.

Windows

Force all network interfaces for DNS

If enabled, Eddie applies DNS changes to all network interfaces (dns.interfaces.types=all). If disabled, it uses the automatic interface selection (auto).

Ensure DNS Lock

If enabled (windows.dns.lock), while connected Eddie uses Windows Filtering Platform rules to block outbound DNS (UDP/TCP port 53) except toward the resolvers used for the session, reducing DNS leaks outside the tunnel.
